Many people may not know what an endodontist does or why they need to visit a specialty practice like North Texas Endodontic Associates. Endodontists actually complete dental school, like your general dentist, as well as at least two additional years of advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of problems relating to the internal structures of teeth. Because we limit our practice to endodontics, our doctors have expertise in treating difficult cases, such as teeth with narrow or blocked canals, severally damaged teeth, or unusual anatomy issues.
Patients usually see a general dentist for standard procedures that repair tooth decay, like dental fillings, bridges, or crowns. Most of the time, your general dentist can fix the problem by filling the cracked enamel or replacing the missing portions of your tooth. When decay reaches the core of a tooth, many dentists will recommend that patients see an endodontist, who specializes in this field.
When your dentist refers you to our practice, we ask that you have any X-rays forwarded to us, or pick them up and bring them with you. We may need to take additional films at our office for optimal diagnosis and treatment. Our practice uses an advanced, computerized system called radiovisography, or digital radiography, which produces up to 90 percent less radiation than the conventional dental X-rays. These digital images can be optimized, archived, printed, and sent to other practitioners via mail, e-mail, or diskette.
If your general dentist has recommended that you see an endodontist, or if you may need any of our endodontic services, please contact our Plano office. At North Texas Endodontic Associates, we care for patients from Plano and the Dallas/Fort Worth area with thorough clinical treatment and gentle, compassionate care.
Additional Information about Your Endodontic Treatment
Keeping you comfortable during all phases of treatment is a priority for us. We use modern anesthetic medications and techniques, including sedation dentistry, to ensure your comfort.
Our doctors perform all procedures using local anesthesia. For patients who feel especially nervous, we can also provide nitrous oxide and/or prescribe oral sedation. If necessary, our doctors can explain intravenous sedation during your pre-operative consultation and examination, and then arrange to have a dental anesthesiologist administer IV sedation during your treatment.
With local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide, patients can immediately drive and return to their usual activities after treatment. When you receive oral or intravenous sedation, you'll need to have someone drive you to and from your appointment, but you will be able to resume normal activities within 24 hours.
