Endodontic Microsurgery
What is Endodontic Microsurgery?
Sometimes, your endodontist may suggest a microsurgical procedure to preserve your tooth. You may have an existing problem before treatment that requires attention, or a problem may occur with your tissues after the initial treatment. We'll tell you as soon as possible if you'll need microsurgery.
Endodontic microsurgery involves the use of a sophisticated operating microscope and special microsurgical instruments. The increased magnification and illumination from these special instruments:
- Greatly improves diagnostic capabilities
- Enhances the precision of surgical procedures
- Reduces surgical trauma so that patients can recover more quickly after surgery
The doctors and staff at NTEA have extensive training in performing this procedure in our state of the art microsurgical suites.
Endodontic microsurgery is normally performed using local anesthesia. However, we sometimes need to use intravenous sedation in conjunction with the local anesthesia to make patients more comfortable. In these cases it will be necessary for the patient to be driven to and from the appointment by someone. In most cases patients return to their usual activities within 24 hours.
